Our Newborn Sleep Routine
So far Eve has been a totally different sleeper than Flynn these first two months (insert thank heavens emoji here). But after our sleep struggles with Flynn, with which I'll go into detail someday (if I can relive it), Mikes and I knew we wanted to start Eve off with a bedtime routine right away. I thought I would share that routine with you today along with a brand new product that has given me peace of mind these first couple of months.
At about 6:30 pm, I go into our bedroom with Eve. We moved her crib into our room next to my side of the bed for easier access while I'm breastfeeding her during the night. I close all of the curtains in our room and turn the sound machine on. I then change her diaper, put on her Owlet, and put on her jams (if they aren't already on ... which they usually are). In case you are wondering, the Owlet Smart Sock 2 is a brand new product that tracks heart rate and oxygen while your baby is sleeping. It's designed to notify you if your baby's heart rate or oxygen fall outside the preset zones. I am not exaggerating when I say out of every baby product I have, this is hands down my favorite. It has given us such peace of mind these first couple of months. For me, the newborn stage can be really scary and exhausting. The Owlet has made the infant stage a lot less scary for me.
I heard about the Owlet Smart Sock from Kailee Wright while I was pregnant with Eve, and I couldn't wait to get it when she was born. It was great timing because on March 29th (our wedding anniversary) Owlet came out with the Owlet Smart Sock 2.
The Owlet Smart Sock 2 features several enhancements, one of which is advancements in firmware and hardware to reduce false notifications. I don't know if you have any experience with other products in this space, but false notifications are a huge annoyance. With Flynn I used another product that I actually stopped using because there were so many false notifications. The alarm would wake Flynn at night. I've been using the Smart Sock 2 for about a month, and I haven't experienced any false notifications yet (insert another thank heavens emoji).
Owlet has also enhanced the smartphone app. It's super cool. You can check your baby's heart rate and oxygen level right on the app.
The Owlet Smart Sock 2 can be worn on the baby's right or left foot.
So back to our bedtime routine. After I put Evie in her jams, Flynn comes in to give Eve and me a kiss goodnight.
It absolutely melts my heart when he gives Eve unsolicited smooches.
And of course Flynn man plays with us a bit before running off to bed with "da-e" (daddy).
I then breastfeed Eve to sleep ...
while she's wearing the sock.
I then put her in her crib for sleep. I have to admit, she is not usually awake like this when I put her in her crib. I have not perfected the art of putting her in her bed sleepy but awake and then allowing her to fall asleep on her own. She is always asleep when I put her in her crib. Baby steps right (pun intended).

After I put Eve in the crib, I turn on the Owlet basestation, which is super sleek. I wait for it to get a reading, and then I leave the room and have some me time or some Mikes and me time. The whole routine usually takes about an hour. Eve is sleeping consistently a four or five our stretch, and then she wakes up about two more times after that. After our struggles with Flynn, this is heaven for me! Please let me know if you ever want to talk about sleep with your little one ... seriously.
