Cheesy Jalapeño Savory Pop Tarts

Cheesy Jalapeño Savory Pop Tarts

savory pop tarts

Don't get me wrong, I love me some strawberry (plain no frosting) and cinnamon brown sugar pop tarts, but savory pop tarts aren't so bad themselves. You guys ... Cheesy Jalapeño Pop Tarts. It's my latest food mashup for KitchenAid. Just think if jalapeño poppers and pop tarts got married and had a kid, they would name it Cheesy Jalapeño Pop Tarts. These turned out really really yummy. They definitely didn't last long in the house. The outside is basically delicious pie crust, and the inside is a melt-in-your-mouth mixture of smoked gouda, cheddar, and cream cheese with just the right amount of jalapeño kick. You can of course add more or less jalapeño depending on your heat preference. These make great snacks to have around for guests during the holidays. Just be careful, your guests may never leave. Check out Kitchenaid's blog, the Kitchenthusiast, for the Cheesy Jalapeño Pop Tarts full recipe and instructions.

Never fear, this homemade pop tarts recipe is simple. I was intimidated about the crust, and it turned out great on the first try. You can snack on these or even eat them for breakfast. Move over egg sandwich. There's something tastier in the oven. The key to these is to get as much filling in them as possible and to spread the filling out as close to the edges as possible. This will prevent crust overload. I think the other key is to freeze the pop tarts before you bake them. This allows them to hold their shape and get nice and crispy in the oven. The other thing that is nice about freezing them beforehand is you can make them ahead. There is so much that has to be done last minute that I'm all about make ahead recipes for the holidays. I don't know you guys ... I gotta be honest. I wasn't into the idea of savory pop tarts at first, but these might have really changed me. I'm loving them in a big way.

Mikes loved them big time and snacked on them for a week or two. That's always a good sign. I think the smoked gouda makes this savory pop tart recipe. I'm am just a wee bit obsessed with smoked gouda at the moment. I have used it for so many recipes as of late including my Pizza Pops. What do you guys think of smoked gouda? I'm not sure what there is to hate about it, but do you love it or hate it? I made another video you guys. It will show you how easy these are to do.

I recently started doing videos, and I have so much fun making them. I would so love it if you followed me on YouTube, so you don't miss any. Click on the button above. Another great holiday recipe is my Soft Pretzel Chocolate Chip Pull Apart Bread. This is another great "have around the house snack" for your guests. I can't decide if it's a bread or a dessert. I think both :-). I made a video for that recipe too, so definitely check it out. And in case you are interested, here are all of my posts for my loves at KitchenAid. They are just the best. Let me know in the comments if you have any other savory pop tart recipes I should try. I'm hooked.
